Description:

Born in 1974 in Park Ridge, Ill., Paul Preissner is an architect and teacher. In 2006, he founded Paul Preissner Architects, an office dedicated to visually striking and conceptually meaningful projects of architecture. Paul Preissner was a Senior Designer and Project Architect at Eisenman Architects and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, as well as having worked as designer for Philip Johnson prior to establishing his own practice. In 2006 his office was awarded the 2nd prize in the international competition for the design of the Gyeonggi-do Museum of Pre-History in South Korea. The office has had its creativity and original language of architecture recognized through publications, exhibitions, lectures, and absorbed into the permanent collection at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2009, Paul Preissner was given a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago as part of the 10 year UBS 12x12 series of new artist work, becoming the first architect represented in the series. Receiving his education from the University of Illinois (BsArch) and Columbia University (MArch), he has taught design and technology at SCI_Arc, was a visiting artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and served as the Hyde Chair of Architecture at the University of Nebraska for 2006. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he is the coordinator for the Master of Architecture program. Paul lectures widely, having keynoted international conferences, as well as lecturing at universities around the globe. Paul lives in Chicago with his wife (Cathleen), their daughter (Amelia), and their italian greyhound (Klaus).
