The TOTEMENT / PAPER architectural bureau was founded in 2006. Founders: Levon Ayrapetov and Valeria Preobrazhenskaya. The bureau includes 10 architects, 3 design engineers, 2 interior designers, 1 designer-visualizer. The bureau is doing its own work on the development of architectural and constructive sections of design and working documentation. Develops interiors, carries out the function of the general designer. Specialization of the bureau: The main specificity of the work of the bureau is manifested in objects that require non-standard solutions, an individual approach and having an imagination component. This quality was manifested in the implementation of the Pavilion of the Russian Federation at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, as well as in the development of the «Alliance 1892» Wine and Brandy Distillery Museum & Warehouse in the Kaliningrad region. The team has experience in working with houses of varying complexity ranging from 1500 to 2500 square meters, the key to success of which is the accumulated rich experience of communication with customers and a highly professional approach.

Exposition "Complexity" at 3 Moscow biennale Architecture. / TOTEMENT/PAPER

Exhibition "Complexity", what was held at 3 Moscow biennale Architecture presented one of three tendensies (including "Simplicity" and "Tradition"), isolated Bart Golhorn as ideologically meaningful direction of modern architecture in the world and in Russia.

Thinking about the word meaning "complexity" in Russian, we decided to consider this word as "co-mplexity"( making from set).

Thus , the name of our exposition get more concrete meaning.

We would liked to submit to audiences "complexity" like "co-mplexity" (making from set) in personal understanding of "complexity" by each participant of the exhibition.

Also we think that "complexity" demand attention, continuous reaction of object on the changing surrounding (environment).

These representations we have based on our exposition concept - we draped hall walls in black material, switched off the main light, making uncertain, not having borders room.

We hang personal "cocoons" in it, black outside and white inside.

Its location and shape also looks like uncertain, not settled by any set order.

On the outside of "cocoon" strip with 50 cm height selected, in it strip placed panels with works of Architecters- participants.

Strips belong to the separate volumes, but at the same time it perceive as one.

Lower part of the cocoons is cut not horizontally and have highest point, through which the visitor making a bow, going inside, in white part.

Cocoon's outside and inside is exposition planes by separate architects, accordingly outside is intended for "external" - final result or concrete work.

Inside we placed "inner" - "kitchen" of bureau, what is remain outside after the object is finished, what is the reason and basing of projects, texts, video, sketches.

We imagine the inside content as present, secret, trusted to coming in person.

We' d like to do complexity not only visual but affecting the physical component of the exhibition.

Floor in the hall is irregular - small surface slopes, according to the visitor about the necessity of attention.

Apparent horizontally surface, feel by foots as something difficult, not predetermined.

"Everything created by people was "Complexity" in the begining, then became "Simplicity" and freeze in time "Traditional".

Complexity of these tendensities is the world what surrounds us.

And this process never stopped, it slowed down, then sped.

Suburbs became centers, centers - provinces.

We are glad that in our country finally (was a center of this process 80-90 years ago) appear the interest to something what is doing somewhere in front, where, of course is more risk, mistakes, difficulties.
