Bent Reed / Taylor McKenzie-Veal

Bent Reed is the result of Taylor McKenzie-Veal's design based research and material exploration; a woven and knotted reed structure that can support over 180kg whilst weighing just over 1kg.

A flat sheet material (glass, wood, metal, etc.) is used to evenly distribute force across the beautifully intricate woven structure which can then function as a seat or low table.

Artist Bio: Taylor McKenzie-Veal has been a designer and creator throughout his life.

He began his creative work in ceramics and perceptual drawing in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Taylor then attended The University of Michigan, School of Art and Design where he focused his studies in industrial design.

While studying and living abroad in Copenhagen he studied Scandinavian Furniture Design and object and furniture design became his passion.

He is currently living, working, and studying in Providence, Rhode Island, where he is finishing his MFA in Furniture Design, at the Rhode Island School of Design..
