CREO / Sameep Padora & Associates

Creo as a store was intended to be a purveyor of inventive design ideas manifested in clothing, accessories and lifestyle objects; a tall program for a space severely constrained in size.

The design brief stressed on creating a presence that would extend beyond the limitations of the existing space, with the possibility of the store design and its objects contributing substantially to brand identity.

Our strategy entailed firstly detaching displays and any design interventions for the store from the existing shell, revering the installation and at the same time referencing the presence of the heritage building that houses Creo.

Thus arriving at the idea of a free standing display system and building on ideas of 'soft form' through motion studies we further proposed to sculpt the event of an intimate shopping experience into its form through semi circular display systems that are mirrored as the extend in height, eventually standing at 13 feet tall.

The hybridized chalice like form of the project hence became a logical outcome of accommodating program.

Inspired the conceptual work of french designer Hussein Chalayan and his body of performative fashion we further diced our free standing formal installation to accommodate lighting, hanger space, accessory shelving as well as stairs, all as part or extension of a single surface, minimizing our interventions to the centerpiece.

Thus our intervention for CREO at a macro level strategizes to position itself in cool opposition' against the myriad dystopia of the busy city center intersection outside.

Also an 'ism' doesn't define the space, its presence is a function of a sutured coherence that comes from non standard and non linear articulation of program and tectonic materiality.
